Former Penn State WR helping the Baltimore/DC area's best to overcome nagging injuries

HUNT VALLEY, Md. -- Former walk-on Penn State wide receiver Evan Lewis has returned home.

Over the last two years, Lewis, the CEO of his company, Premier Neuro Therapy, has traveled throughout the United States to introduce top professional athletes to a new recovery and rehabilitation methodology Neuro Therapy.

Neuro Therapy, he says, helps athletes to more quickly understand and attack what causes injuries, rather than focusing solely on the symptoms.

"Many recovery programs out there focus all of their efforts on treating the symptoms of an injury," Lewis said last week.

"For instance, if an athlete is dealing with a nagging shoulder injury, it's likely a more traditional therapist will try to strengthen the muscles in the shoulder with resistance bands. A doctor may suggest arthroscopic surgery to get a better idea of what's going on. But not many in traditional medicine really ever stop to ask a simple question 'why is this happening'?"

That's where Neuro Therapy is different, Lewis says.

Evan Lewis returns a punt for Penn State in a 2012 game against Purdue. Today, Lewis works with professional athletes around the country to accelerate recovery from injury. He is CEO and founder of Premier Neuro Therapy, a Hunt Valley company that helps people to overcome nagging aches and pains, avoid surgery, and achieve a state of peak performance.

At Premier Neuro Therapy, therapists utilize advanced technologies that help them to identify muscles in the body that aren't functioning correctly. A muscle's job, Lewis explains, is to create and absorb force in the body. In order for the muscle to absorb force efficiently, the nervous system and muscles must be in sync.

"When a muscle is not absorbing force properly, that force transfers to other soft tissues in the body. This places additional stress on those body parts and can lead to muscle strains, ligament tears, and even chronic pain."

Going back to the example of a nagging shoulder injury in a throwing athlete, Lewis explains that therapists at Premier often find neuromuscular communication issues in the biceps, pec, and forearm, rather than the shoulder itself.

"When we address the neuromuscular communication issues in the biceps and forearm, we remove the additional stress on shoulder, and it's able to heal itself more efficiently."

And Lewis's methodology must be working.

After finishing his Penn State football career, Lewis opened Premier Neuro Therapy in Jacksonville, FL in August 2015.

Within just two months, he was working with a couple of names familiar to the Baltimore and DC region the Washington Nationals Daniel Murphy and former Baltimore Orioles outfielder, Nolan Reimold.

A career .288 hitter through 2015, Murphy has hit .334 in two seasons since starting work with Premier.

Even more importantly, he's avoided the disabled list. Murphy has stayed healthy enough to play in nearly 90 percent of the Nationals games the last two years, quite a feat for a player approaching his mid-30s.

Before Reimold started working with Premier, he had spent parts of every season on the disabled list. After addressing a shoulder issue with Lewis in the offseason, Reimold continued seeking advice from Premier throughout the 2016 season, his first season staying off of the disabled list.

Both Murphy and Reimold were so impressed by the results achieved with Premier that Lewis's phone number spread through Major League Baseball like wild fire.

Before he could blink, Lewis was flying with players from state to state, helping them to accelerate recovery from injury and get back on the field.

Since working with Murphy and Reimold, Lewis has worked with Nationals stars Jayson Werth, Ryan Zimmerman, and even Orioles great, Brady Anderson.

When asked about his work with Premier, Werth was impressed. He sought Premier's services after several setbacks recovering from a broken foot in 2017.

"The work is tough but gratifying and got me back quicker than expected. I really turned the corner after working with Premier and would suggest anyone dealing with injuries do the same. The results really do speak for themselves."

As former Penn State football teammates in the NFL watched Lewis's success from afar, they too started requesting his services.

Through his work he's established close relationships with sports medicine staff throughout sports, including the Nationals and Division I programs, like Jacksonville University.

In October 2017, the Jacksonville University sports medicine twitter account (@JUsportsmed) tweeted:

"Awesome experience working with you and your team. Great results working with our athletes."

Today, Lewis continues to work closely with a variety of MLB, NFL, PGA, and NCAA athletes.

In October 2017, Lewis decided to take on an even bigger mission spreading the Neuro Therapy message to a more widespread community and helping as many people as possible with his techniques.

This mission, he says, is driven by his observation that the traditional medical field is not doing enough to help people. He believes that there are too many people out there that have become reliant on painkillers, been prematurely pushed into surgery, or kept from staying active due to pain.

In order to jump start this new mission, Lewis opened Premier Neuro Therapy's first local clinic in Hunt Valley.

In just a few months, he's helped a variety of clients who have been told by many other practitioners that they'd have to live with pain forever or their performance goals were not obtainable.

These clients have ranged from retired moms dealing with back pain to small business owners with achy knees to elite CrossFit athletes being held back by tight shoulders, and everywhere in between.

Among all of his successful clients, Lewis explains, there is a common theme.

"The clients that have success with me are highly motivated. This isn't a 'magic pill' type of therapy. It's an extremely intense process that requires clients to have a positive attitude, mental strength, and above everything, a belief in themselves that they can solve their problem.

"With those core values in place, I don't believe there are many people dealing with injuries, aches, and pains that my therapists can't help. Unlike many in the field today, our only goal is to understand and help you reach your goal. Whether it is improving performance, getting back in the gym, playing with your grand kids, or even just washing your hair, we want to help you achieve it."
